Extensible Shallow Parsing for Semantic Nets

This paper proposes a specific linguistic-based format for semantic networks in which nodes
correspond to "open class" words. "Closed class" words and morphological elements form the basis for atomic link labels and node tags. A simple parser has been developed to transform written text into this representation. The properties of the resulting networks are discussed and psychologically inspired limited-horizon browsing techniques are examined.
