(0,G/I) codes are a subclass of MTR codes

Maximum transition run (MTR) codes are defined that avoid quasicatastrophic error propagation in Viterbi detectors matched to partial response channels with spectral nulls both at DC and the Nyquist frequency. It is shown that the new class of MTR codes includes (0,G/I) codes as a subclass.
