This chapter provides an introduction to implicit techniques used in goemetric modeling and computer graphics. We begin by contrasting implicit and parametric methods. We then summarize three classes of techniques - algebraic, blobby, and functional. Functional (F-rep) techniques represent some of the recent work on using a single function to represent complex shapes.
