Closed-Circuit Resistance of the Eigler Atomic Switch: A Case of Far Off-Resonance Conduction

The electrical resistance of one- and two-Xe atom links between two electrodes is discussed. The substantial dependence of resistance on the number of atoms is in sharp contrast to the behavior for the case of metal atoms.
