A CORBA-Based Model for Distributed Applications Management

Existing approaches for both network and distributed systems management like OSI-NM or Internet-NM have not proven their applicability for the problem of managing distributed applications. This fact is due mainly to two deficiencies: the lack of flexibility of the static Internet management model; and the complexity of the OSI odel which makes it hard to implement. In this paper we pursue a different approach by investigating OMG's Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) and Corba Object Services Specification (COSS) for the purpose of application management. The aim of this paper is to show that funcitonal facilities of management, claimed as being necessary by OSI, can easilty be provided more flexibly deploying OMG's CORBA for application management.
