This paper discusses an evolution in our understanding of how pervasive
handheld devices can be used to increase awareness and interactivity in
the workplace. We present two pervasive clients that demonstrate the
evolution from simple instant messaging and awareness functionality to
an approach that is more integrated with the way people work.
