Measuring Application Response Times with the CIM Metrics Model

We describe new extensions to the CIM Metrics Model. While the previous version of the model provides a means to carry out response time measurements against an application, the scope of the work described in this paper is to define schema extensions capable of measuring and tracing distributed transactions. The model has been developed by the Application Working Group of the Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF) in which the authors actively participate. The extensions described in this paper have been recently adopted by the CIM Technical Committee and are part of the new version 2.7 of the CIM schema. Two detailed examples illustrate the applicability of the Metrics Model to real-life measurement scenarios in distributed computing environments.
