Jitter Measurement Algorithm for Serial Links

An algorithm is presented to determine jitter in a high-speed serial link operated with arbitrary user data. The horizontal eye opening is determined by evaluating the sample statistics obtained by means of a digital clock-data-recovery (CDR) receiver in the deserializer. The jitter measurement method proposed here was applied to a 2.5 Gb/s serial link.
