Formalization of the DE Language

We have formalized a hierarchical, occurrence-oriented hard-
ware description language and we have developed a proof theory to per-
mit the mechanical veri cation of hardware descriptions. Using the ACL2
logic, we de ned a well-formedness predicate that recognizes syntacti-
cally acceptable descriptions, and a symbolic simulator that de nes a
cycle-based simulation semantics.
