Network Access Technologies-an Overview

Telecommunication services are delivered to customers via ``last mile'' access networks. Most last-leg links
to customer premises will continue to be based on existing twisted-pair or coaxial copper cables. Where copper cables are not available or practical, wireless access links are introduced. The lengths of the copper or wireless links are reduced by introducing optical fiber transmission between the entry points to the global networks and local service delivery nodes. Network access technologies have become one of the hottest focal points in communication engineering. In this presentation we give an overview of existing and emerging technologies.
