Characterizing Lotus Notes Email Clients

Balancing the workload on servers requires a model of the distribution of work generated by email users. The simple model is that all users are equal, but we know from experience that this is not the case. Some users are much more demanding than others and can create server performance problems. This paper describes how to use Lotus Domino transaction counts to characterize email users by the workload they generate. The analusis maps load on the server with the heavy users of email. It also documents and interview study of heavy users to verify that their requirements are legitimate.
