5B/6B-T(urbo), 3B/4B-T, and Partitioned 8B-/10B-T Transmission Code and its Implementation for High Operating Rates

A variant of the well known dc-balanced partitioned 8B/10B Transmission code is presented. The encoding and decoding circuits can operate at higher speed or lower power and pipe-lining can be easier implemented. Up to 19 control characters can be defined, two of them are comma characters. The transmission characteristics are virtually identical, but the coding tables are different. Applications which need not be backwards compatible with the traditional code can benefit from this new code.
