Further Analysis of Capillary Stability in Brookhaven's X25 Beamline

In this investigation, straight and tapered Pyrex micro-capillaries and straight quartz micro-capillaries were tested on a high intensity wiggler beamline (Brookhaven National Lab's NSLS X25) to determine the degradation characteristics of the capillaries and the maximum allowable flux at which no permanent damage will occur to the capillaries. The observed changes ranged from catastrophic melting of the capillaries to more subtle changes such as broadening of the beam and loss of transmitted beam intensity.
